Windows users especially with Vista might face an issue which does not allow connection to the internet. They might most likely get an error 797- the modem could not be found or busy. This issue normally occurs if there is no communication happening from the modem’s end. Probably the device itself is not detected or used my some other service during the windows startup.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Check if the mobile broadband modem is detected.

If it’s not detected check if it is detected in the device manager. If the device is still not detected nor have errors then it might a problem with the modem drivers.

Reinstall the modem drivers either using the CD or from the providers website.

Also make sure that the drivers are updated for the operating system that you use.

There might few chances where the browser might be set to dial out automatically. Also fax programs installed in the computer might dial out during the windows start up that might make the modem busy.

Finally you can also run a complete scan on the computer since viruses and spywares can dial out continuously making the modem busy.

If none of these steps resolved the issue then users might have to get in touch with the operators to register a mobile broadband complaint.

Have you experienced this error while using a mobile broadband- “Error-777 Modem out of Order”, then here you have the solution. This issue might occur after an upgradation of any network related software or the operating system itself. If the modem was working fine earlier and does not work after any of these changes then probably you can try to uninstall the software, restart the computer and try connecting again.

This error occurs since there is no communication between the computer and the modem. It might be due to the hardware which is not connected or the software which is interrupting the connection.

If the above step does not work, try these steps:

Check if the modem is connected firmly to the USB port.

If it is connected using a USB cable then check if the USB cable is firmly connected and the modem is connected firmly to the cable.

Try connecting the modem to different USB ports.

Power cycle the modem- Disconnect the modem- shut down the computer- connect the modem- start the computer again.

Check if there are too many devices like fax software which is trying to dial in the start up.

Uninstall and reinstall the modem connectivity software.

Check if the modem drivers are updated for the operating system that you have installed in the computer, else install it from the manufacturers website.

Enable the TCP/IP services and restart the computer.

If none of these steps work then the issue could be with the USB dongle itself. So users can contact the provider’s customer service for mobile broadband complaints.

iPad is a digital reader introduced by Apple which is capable of accessing the internet from either a Wi-Fi or 3G network. To access a Wi-Fi network the user have to just switch on Wi-Fi access, but to access the 3G network the user needs to install a 3G mobile broadband SIM card into the iPad.

The iPad uses a special micro SIM card which is much smaller than the normal SIM card. In UK these SIM cards are provided by Orange, Vodafone, 3mobile and O2 mobile. The micro SIM card should be inserted in to the SIM card tray of the iPad. However users might find it difficult to find the SIM card slot. Here is how you do it.

The SIM card tray is found on the left side of the iPad which has a small hole near it. Inside the hole is small button which helps to eject the SIM card tray out of the iPad. (This hole should be similar to the one which we find in the computer CD tray for emergency eject).

All the iPad kits should contain a SIM card eject tool. If not found you may have to contact Apple regarding this.

Insert the sharp end of the tool inside the hole.

Make sure the tool is straight and press firmly and gently so that the tray pops out completely.

If you are sure how to do this and even if you have lost the eject tool, then you can use a paper clip to eject the SIM tray.

Put the micro SIM card inside the tray and push it back inside so that you hear a slight click sound.

Once done, the SIM tray would not slide out.

This SIM card tray in the iPad is setup in this way to assure that the SIM card fits firmly in to the device and is not removed even if the device is dropped down.

Users might receive a mobile broadband error 720 which says “A connection to the remote computer could not be established. Change the network settings.” This error occurs if the TCP/IP protocol stack is corrupt.

TCP/IP is a suite of internet communication protocols which helps to connect to the internet in a windows based computer. Changes to the network components might corrupt the TCP/IP stack which results in connectivity issues. The computer will not be able to send any communication requests if the TCP/IP is corrupt. Users can try to reset the TCP/IP stack or install the Microsoft fix to resolve the issue. However, if the issue is still not resolved then users have to reinstall the operating system.

Download the Microsoft Fix

Users can download the Microsoft fix from KB299357 to download the fix and install it to the computer.

Mobile broadband users might sometimes experience an error 608 while trying to connect to the internet. This error message normally occurs when the operating system cannot connect to the USB modem or if there isn’t any active sync between the computer and the modem.

In windows based operating system like windows XP, Vista and 7 all the hardware connected to the computer will be detected in the device manager. The status of the device can be identified from the device manager. If the USB modem in the device manager is disabled or incompatible or not found then there is high possibility of getting the error 608.

If the device was working fine previously then the issue should be due to a change in the system software. Users who are aware of any new software changes can manually uninstall the software or perform a system restore.

Otherwise try the below mentioned steps

Check if the connection is enabled. Open control panel>> Network connections>> check if the mobile broadband connection is enabled.

Check if the device is enabled. Open control panel>> system properties>> hardware tab>> device manager>> expand network adapters>> check if the mobile broadband modem is detected without any errors.

Check if there is any update available for the USB modem from the provider’s website.

Update the firmware. Make sure to plug in the modem to the computer without the SIM card during the update.

Once the update is installed, restart the computer.

Insert the SIM card to the USB modem and connect it to the computer.

Check for any errors.

This is one of the familiar errors that every Mobile Broadband user would have seen. It says, “Error-678, The remote computer did not respond. Unable to establish a network connection.” Users normally get this error when trying to connect to the mobile broadband network. It means that the USB modem was unable to communicate with the operator since the mobile network neglected or did not respond to the connection request. Normally in this condition a user will be unable to connect to the network even if they have full coverage and good signal strength.

There are several occasions where a user can get this error code. It can be an issue with the computer or an issue with the connectivity from the operator’s end or it could be an issue related to billing or excess usage. The mobile operators can block the user from accessing the network due to activation issues, non-payment of bills or excess usage beyond the fair usage policy. For all of these issues users shall contact the mobile operator’s customer care.

However, if does not have any of those claims, please follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:

Restart the computer and wait until all the programs are completely loaded in the desktop. Try to connect again.

Check if you have the default username, password and telephone number entered in the connection manager software.

Disable antivirus or firewall, and try connecting. If it solved the issue, then check for any recent updates and uninstall it or contact the antivirus manufacturer to reconfigure it.

Uninstall and reinstall the connection manager software and reconfigure it.

Reset the TCP/IP stack if it’s a windows based computer. Click on start- Run- Type cmd- Press Enter- Type “nets hint ip reset resetlog.txt” – Press Enter and restart the computer.

The computer should be able to connect to the mobile broadband network. If it’s still unable to connect then check if the dongle is working on a different computer. If it’s working then it’s an issue with the computer. Please contact hardware manufacturer or the computer manufacturer.

This is a common error in Mobile Broadband which can occur if the SIM card is not recognized or inactive. Mostly this error occurs with PAYG mobile broadband which should be activated manually after the time of purchase. The SIM card in the USB modem will not be able to access the mobile network if it is not activated or if the name of the service provider or service is chosen incorrectly.

Users can contact the customer support of the respective provider to activate the SIM card before using it. If the SIM card is already activated then users can try using it in a compatible mobile to check if it’s able to pick up the signal. If the SIM card receives proper signal then it is an issue either with the USB modem or the setting of the connection manager software.

If the 3G SIM card is active and receives a proper signal, then try out the below mentioned steps:

Check the providers name is typed as mentioned in the modem kit.

Check the phone number, username and password.

Change the network mode from 3G to HSDPA, GPRS etc and then check.

Connect the USB modem to a different port and check.

Reinstall the connection manager.

Wireless broadband is a method of connecting to a cable internet connection using a wireless router.

Users require a wireless router and a wireless card installed in their computer to access the internet wirelessly.

The cable broadband connection is plugged in to the wireless router and the wireless option is enabled to create a wireless zone for a certain limit.

Any computer which has a wireless card installed in it can access the wireless internet if available within the range.

The speed of the internet depends on the speed of the cable connection and the distance between the router and the computer.

The wireless router is secured by an inbuilt firewall and any private access can be restricted using WEP and WPA keys.

Wireless routers can provide access to multiple devices at the same time.

Mobile broadband uses a USB modem to connect to the internet.

The USB modem is connected to computer directly or using a USB cable. It also uses a SIM card to access the mobile network.

The USB modem installs the driver and connection manager automatically once it is connected to the computer.

The speed of the internet connection depends on the coverage and signal strength. All the 3G services receive a minimum speed of 2Mbps and a maximum of 14Mbps.

Mobile Broadband is a dedicated service which requires the user to choose a plan at the time of purchase.

Since Mobile Broadband modem is a dedicated internet service users can access all the services at the same time. However voice calls are made using chat or VOIP services.
