How to use Mobile Broadband for Xbox live?

Mobile Broadband is one of the widely used sources for accessing the internet. The speed offered in most parts of UK does not suit the requirement of X-box gaming consoles. However, many mobile broadband providers in UK are in the process of upgrading the speeds to 14.4Mbps. Users who receive better coverage and speeds can use the mobile broadband service with their X-box gaming consoles. But there isn’t any way of using the USB modems directly in to X-box.
- Connect the X-box to a computer using an Ethernet cable.
- Plug in the USB modem to the computer and connect to the internet
Windows XP
- Click Start »Control Panel »Network Connections »Setup home or small office network
- Click next in the first two screens
- The wizard will detect any available connection to the computer. Highlight the NIC option and click next
- Choose the first option which says that the computer connects directly to the internet and click on next
- Highlight the respective 3G modem that is connected to the computer and click on next
- Check the box besides the NIC option and click next
- Choose the second option which says “Turn off file and printer sharing and click next”
- Wait for a while until the internet connection is shared by the X-box
- Now click next and finish
Windows Vista
- Click Start »Control Panel »Network and sharing center »Manage network connections
- Right click the respective 3G modem and click on properties
- Make sure the 3G modem has a check mark besides it
- Click on the sharing tab
- Choose local area connection in the drop down
- Check the box which says “Allow other network users to connect through the computer’s internet connection.” Click ok
- Unplug and reconnect the mobile broadband modem
- Connect to the internet and the connection will be shared by the X-box
Users can now configure X-box to accept the incoming connection.
