4G trials in full swing in London

Smartphone retailer and network provider ‘O2’, which is undertaking 4G trials at various locations in the capital of UK, claims that it has achieved wireless broadband speed of up to 150 Mbps, which is probably as good as the fastest home broadband speed.

About 1,000 consumers are taking part in the trials, being conducted in places like Hyde Park, Soho, Westminster, King Cross, Canary Wharf, South Bank etc in London.

O2 has disclosed that the next generation broadband speed will average between 20 Mbps and 50 Mbps, which is 20 times more than the current 3G network speeds.

The trials, which commenced in last December in about 25 places in London and covering 40 square kilometers, is in precedence to the 4G spectrum which is scheduled to be introduced in 2013.

Ronan Dunne of Telefonica UK, the parent company of O2, feels that the spectrum auction which is due shortly, will be the turning point for the mobile industry of the country. The quality, capacity, speed etc of the connection will be to the best advantage of the consumers, whether residents or businesses. The most modern digital technology will be adopted for the new service.

There are technically sound consumers eagerly awaiting the 4G connectivity. At the same time, there are also normal consumers happy with the existing 3G facility.
