Nottingham determined to become the first 4G City in the UK
Nottingham City Council is trying for a part of the Urban Broadband Fund (UBF) of the UK government which aims at providing ten largest municipalities in the country with super fast broadband and Wi-Fi.
4G is the forth generation internet which tablets, laptops and mobile devices make use of. Thanks to its very high speed, the users will be able to watch high quality audio and video even while on travel.
Chancellor George Osborne will shortly inform whether the bid of the city council has been approved.
Jane Todd, the chief executive remarked that the next generation digital infrastructure will have a serious effect on the social and economic conditions of the place in the future. He will be too excited if Nottingham becomes the first city in the UK to avail the 4G service. Faster connectivity will do a lot for the business establishment of the place.
Alex Ball, the councillor informed that the council was in touch with almost all categories of organizations in the place – small medium and large. This is not a mere city council bid; this is a whole Nottingham bid. All in the place must participate for the good of Nottingham.
Only cities with at least 150,000 homes are eligible to apply for the fund the total value of which is GBP 100 million.
The nine municipalities which compete with Nottingham are Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds.
Incidentally, London, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh the four capitals of the UK are certain to get the government aid as part of the scheme.
