Telstra comes First in the 4G Deployment Race Down Under

With the operations in the initial Long Term Evolution (LTE) enabled base-stations have been flagged off by the prominent telecommunications provider of Australia, Telstra in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, Telstra is continuing with its claims for the first place in the race to rollout 4G services in Australia.

The LTE distinction is significant for Telstra as the rival internet service provider Vividwireless has also put forth claims for having the first live LTE network of the country.

While Telstra is depending on the frequency division multiplexing (FD LTE) technology for deploying its next generation mobile network, rival Vividwireless has engaged the time division multiplexing (TD-LTE) version of the LTE for deploying its own superfast mobile broadband network.

It is also worth noting here that Telstra has been teaming up with the global technology giant, Ericsson for conducting field pilots since their announcing the rollout of the LTE-based superfast mobile services in mid-February.

Meanwhile, Mike Wright, the executive director of Telstra Networks and Access Technologies, said that the first of the 4G data batches have been sent for the first time off the field pilots, over the network.

Telstra is understood to be upgrading its existing next generation network with Long Term Evolution technology in the CBDs of every capital city and to be choosing the regional centres by 2011 end.
