Windows Tablet PC Plans announced by Microsoft

Internet tablets that run the Windows 7 interface of Microsoft would be launched in a few months, according to Steve Ballmer, the chief executive officer at Microsoft.

Ballmer revealed while briefing to delegates at a conference conducted by the company that manufacturers including Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Dell and Asus were among those working on the development of Windows Slate personal computers.

Ballmer, while refraining from mentioning a specific release date for the internet tablets, said that the area was terribly significant to Microsoft. He stressed the fact that the touch-screen iPad from Apple had sold three million units within eighty days of launch.

Balmer added that one of the most significant things that would be done by them this year in the smart device category was to really push ahead with the slate PCs based on Windows 7 operating system.

According to him the tablet PCs would come in different forms, some with keyboard and some dockable. Nonetheless, these devices are very much expected to ideally compliment advanced, fast mobile broadband such a 3G broadband.

Incidentally, Microsoft had in 2010 April, shelved the development of a dual screen internet tablet, the Courier, swirling rumours about the HP slate’s future.
